Munich Haus Restaurant & Lounge
The “Munich Haus, Restarant and Lounge” is a great destination if your traveling in Western MA. Located in The City of Chicopee’s Historic Downtown area. It’s easily accessible from Rt 91 and Rt 90.
I decided to stop in for lunch while in the area on this cold winter day. I was by myself so I decided to sit at the large rectangular bar which is easily accessible from the front door. It was right before the lunch crowd started coming in so I had a good choice of seating. I was immediately taken care of by Dan, the bartender, who I learned has been there since the Munich Haus opened it’s doors. I decided I’d order a German beer as they have a great variety on tap. I ordered a ERDINGER HEFE WEISSE, it was served well chilled with a lemon wedge on the rim. They also have a great selection of local brewed beer & German & domestic wines.
As I sipped my beer & pondered the menu, I enjoyed watching the people as they ate & conversed seated in the pub style tables along the wall in the bar area. They also have a very large restaurant with seating capacity for gatherings & parties as was evident by the many guests arriving & disappearing into the restaurant. The owners did a great job of giving the restaurant a German European feel with the decor & the German music playing softly from the sound system. With the snow and cold outside & the ambiance inside, I settled into the calm of German Alps with the waitress dressed in traditional German outfits complete with welcoming smiles. You can experience this happy feeling by going to they’re web site, but I recommend going there in person to get the whole experience.
OK time to order, the lunch menu is a very good representation of German cuisine including, Pfaelzer & Nuernberger Bratwurst, Sauer Braten, Jaeger Schnitzel, Potato Pancake, Red Cabbage, Sauerkraut, and Spaetzle. As well as a great deli sandwich selection, vegetarian entrees, salads and of course their “Munich Haus Burgers” and a nice selection of soups and daily specials as well. All lunch items are very reasonably priced below $10.00. Making this a smart choice as well given the current economic climate.
I decided on a cup of Hungarian Goulasch Soup and the lunch portion of Braised Lamb Shanks, with spaetzle after Dan reassured me that it wouldn’t be too large for lunch. Although the bouillabaisse and chowder specials tempted me, I couldn’t pass on the shank today.
The soup arrived almost immediately, it had just the right amount of spice mixed into the braised beef bits & burgundy sauce. It’s very hardy soup (almost a stew) & went great with the cold WEISSE.
The Lamb Shank arrived just as I was finishing my goulash & looked great, I couldn’t wait to try it. It tasted as good as it looked. The meat was juicy and tender & just about falling off the bone placed on a thin layer of tasty sauce that enhanced the Spaetzle.
I finished off with a good cup of coffee and passed on the great selection of desserts, “next time”. I don’t know how I missed the Freshly Baked Gourmet Cookies, for $.75 each though!
I can’t wait to go there for dinner with guests.

| That is great to know,
All the more reason I would encourage dining there. On another note, I had lunch there again with my daughter & we were both very pleased with our meals. We started our meal with a warm spiced red wine called “Gluh Wine”. For our meals Jackie had the Jaeger Schnitzel & I had the boneless pork chop.
Both were good size lunch portions & juicy very tasty. We finished off with a cappuccino and an espresso and this time with some delicious Macadamia Nut and White Chocolate Chip cookies..

| I just stumbled on your website. LOVE IT! The Munich Haus is a one of a kind spot. Great Lunches and dinners; but they also will do parties. We celebrated by Grandma’s 60th Birthday party there and we had a great time. Our waitress so wonderful; fun and joking but also helpful to those in the group who don’t usually eat german foods. Even we teenagers eat German and loved it. Speatzle … who wouldn’t love it. Try it for a party. You’ll love it too.
