Mateus Restaurant

posted on May 2nd, 2009 by Manny Lopes
Recently my daughter & I and some friends visited Mateus Seafood and Steak Restaurant in Ludlow MA. It's no secret that I like Portuguese restaurants & I always enjoy going to Mateus. Mateus is tucked away from the main streets of Ludlow Massachusetts in a quiet neighborhood in the mist of the Portuguese community and within walking distance to the local Gremio Lusitano Portuguese Club and home of the Western MA Pioneers semi-pro soccer team. Mateus serves up daily specials in they're spacious bar area as well as in they're separate dinning area. In the bar area there is a long table area with stools all around where people come & meet up & enjoy a tasteful lunch while visiting with friends or making new friends. It's a joyous atmosphere reminiscent of the laid back & carefree lifestyle of Portugal. I highly recommend a visit with friends or by yourself for a great lunch. But back to our visit. We were greeted and served by Kelly. Mateus is a family restaurant and Kelly is the daughter, you'll probably be greeted by Kelly's mom Maria and likely get served by her brother Cliff if you go to the bar area where you'll also likely to meet Manny (the Dad & Husband) as...

Europa Restaurant, S. Hadley MA.

If you haven't been to Europa Restaurant yet, what are you waiting for? Europa is located at 489 Granby Rd., South Hadley, MA on RT 202. Europa has a great menu featuring a vast European menu including Italian, Greek, Spanish & Portuguese entree's. Some of my favorites are the Sicilian Angel Hair with pignoli nuts and a white wine butter sauce, Grilled Rack of Lamb, Baby Back Ribs, and the Mariscada is a must try if you like seafood (a medley of lobster, clams, shrimp, calamari and scallops sauteed in a delicious onion & pepper sauce). They always have some great daily specials. The menu has something for everyone and entree's can be ordered in full or half portions. Their Tapas menu is very diverse as well with some great selections like Greek Shrimp, Clams Bulhao ( clams made in a delicious white wine, cilantro & garlic sauce, a great Portuguese recipe) and if you haven't tried Seviche, this is the place to order this delicious Cuban/South American Tappa. Europa offers Yellowfin Tuna "Seviche or Ceviche" & Chef Mike does a superb job with this dish, the Tuna is marinaded in lemon, hot red pepper, mint & served with with...

Munich Haus Restaurant & Lounge

posted on January 30th, 2009 by Manny Lopes
The "Munich Haus, Restarant and Lounge" is a great destination if your traveling in Western MA. Located in The City of Chicopee's Historic Downtown area. It's easily accessible from Rt 91 and Rt 90. I decided to stop in for lunch while in the area on this cold winter day. I was by myself so I decided to sit at the large rectangular bar which is easily accessible from the front door. It was right before the lunch crowd started coming in so I had a good choice of seating. I was immediately taken care of by Dan, the bartender, who I learned has been there since the Munich Haus opened it's doors. I decided I'd order a German beer as they have a great variety on tap. I ordered a ERDINGER HEFE WEISSE, it was served well chilled with a lemon wedge on the rim. They also have a great selection of local brewed beer & German & domestic wines. As I sipped my beer & pondered the menu, I enjoyed watching the people as they ate & conversed seated in the pub style tables along the wall in the bar area. They also have a very large restaurant with seating...
